At The Butterfly Effect Project (BEP), we believe that investing in the communities of our Butterflies and Dragonflies is essential to nurturing the whole child. By building strong connections and meaningful relationships within each community, BEP helps young people feel seen, valued, and supported. This sense of belonging not only strengthens their roots but also encourages self-appreciation, confidence, and the growth of their full potential.
ACCOUNTABILITY
At The Butterfly Effect Project (BEP), we believe that accountability is the foundation of responsibility. Owning your actions helps young people build solutions, grow in self-awareness, and strengthen their personal growth. Accountability is especially important for those who serve as role models, showing Butterflies and Dragonflies how to lead with integrity, thoughtfulness, and care for others.
RESPECT
At The Butterfly Effect Project (BEP), we honor each other fully. When conflicts arise, we respond — we don’t react. We focus on the problem, not the person, so we can find realistic and healthy solutions. Reacting invites personal opinions and feelings that cloud the issue, but responding allows us to pause, breathe, and move forward with clarity and respect.

We nurture it through transparency, honesty, and open communication at every level of our organization—among management, staff, ambassadors, volunteers, and our Butterflies and Dragonflies. Here, everyone is encouraged to speak their truth, listen with respect, and celebrate each other’s achievements. By honoring one another and supporting each other’s growth, we create a safe, welcoming space where trust can thrive and everyone feels valued.
CULTURAL RESPONSIVENESS
At The Butterfly Effect Project (BEP), we strive to create spaces where youth can learn, connect, and relate to one another with respect and curiosity. We celebrate the unique experiences, traditions, and stories that every Butterfly and Dragonfly brings to the program, and we encourage them to share these with their chapters. Each chapter is shaped by the young people in it, reflecting their voices, interests, and ideas. Through storytelling, cultural traditions, and thoughtfully planned events, we honor the richness of our community and foster an environment where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and inspired to grow together.
