Our Impact at a Glance

Every child carries boundless potential within.
At The Butterfly Effect Project, we create safe spaces for that potential to grow. We remove barriers, pour into their dreams, and walk beside them as they discover who they are and who they can become. Together, we build pathways of possibility, one child at a time, knowing that each step forward creates a ripple of hope for generations to come.

What is the Butterfly Effect Project and what do we do?

"Empowering the community one child at a time."

The Butterfly Effect Project (BEP) is a nonprofit, community-oriented organization founded by Tijuana Fulford. Her vision was to empower young girls by giving them the tools to build emotionally strong and self-confident futures, nurturing a generation of women who are resilient, independent, and knowledgeable. From those humble beginnings on March 8, 2014, with just 8 girls from the Riverhead and Flanders communities, BEP has blossomed into a thriving movement serving over 700 young people—girls and boys—across the East End.

As the program grew, we welcomed boys into the fold, celebrating our girls as Butterflies and our boys as Dragonflies, each supported to explore their potential, discover their strengths, and navigate life with confidence. Today, with more than 30 chapters in communities and school districts, BEP creates safe spaces where youth are seen, heard, and guided to shine in their fullest form.

Throughout the year, our youth participate in a variety of community service and joy-filled events that bring all chapters together. We introduce young Butterflies and Dragonflies to enriching experiences that stretch their minds, spark curiosity, and foster academic growth, hard work, and self-confidence. The Butterfly Effect Project provides a nurturing environment where every young person can be free, expressive, and flourish—building the foundation for a lifetime of purpose and possibility.
